According to the prosecution, the matter came to light on October 7, 2013, as a team from Bhupani police station here recovered the badly mutilated body of a girl in the bushes near Agra canal.
After ascertaining the identity of the girl, police also zeroed in on four youths -- Anwar, Aasim, Rashid and Hasmuddin -- who were suspected to have a hand in the crime.
All the four -- subsequently pronounced guilty and also fined a sum of Rs 70,000 each -- were working at a nearby workshop and Anwar was in a relationship with the deceased.
On October 6, 2013, Anwar arranged for a cab in which, along with his three accomplices, he took the girl to Delhi.
But all of them got down at Mawai Kathpula near Agra canal and the cab was released.
Taking the girl to an isolated spot, the four raped the girl before strangulating her with her own dupatta. The four also disfigured the victim's face to prevent identification.
