Four persons, including the driver of a businessman, were arrested for allegedly being involved in a Rs 1 crore theft with Delhi Police saying they have recovered cash of Rs 40 lakh and jewellery worth Rs 50 lakh from the accused.
The accused, identified as Karan, Ajimulla (both 25), Challoo and Ramsurat Tiwar (both 30), all hail from Gonda district of Uttar Pradesh, police said.
On May 10, one Satish Kumar Wadhwa, a businessman, had complained to police that his house was burgled while the residents were outside.
According to a senior police official, Wadhwa said that "cash of about Rs 40-42 lakh and jewellery worth Rs 50 lakh was stolen" from his house.
Launching their probe, police suspected that the hand of someone known to the family was behind the crime.
"It was found during investigations that Challoo, the complainant's driver, masterminded the crime and roped in and conspired with the other accused, who all belonged to his hometown," the officer said.
Teams were thereafter sent to Gonda and Challoo was apprehended and, upon questioning, he told police about the whereabouts of the other accused.
Cash of Rs 40 lakh and jewellery worth Rs 50 lakh was recovered from the accused, police added.
