The accused have been identified as Sartaj alias Pradhan (50) a resident of Bijnaur, UP, Surender Singh alias Kukku alias Doctor (35) a resident of Jhajjar, Haryana, Bhupender alias Hudda (28) and Naseem (22) both residents of Delhi.
"We learnt that Sartaj was running a gang which smuggled arms adopting indigenous methods for delivering them by hoodwinking the police. On Wednesday, a tip-off was received that the gang members would reach Sector 11, Rohini, to deliver a consignment in a car," said Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime) Ravindra Yadav.
As soon as the police team moved to catch them, they tried to flee in the car. However, the police team surrounded their vehicle giving no opportunity to the occupants to escape, police said.
Police recovered two improvised pistols, one revolver and five country-made guns. The car was also found to be a stolen one, police said.
These weapons are in high demand with the various criminal gangs operating in Delhi and NCR. In recent times, the criminals have shown a tendency of using or carrying weapons with them while committing any crime.
The accused persons were also found involved in various criminal cases previously, police said.
