Four earth-moving machines, engaged in road construction work at Lakrapahari under the Kathikund police station in the Naxal-affected Dumka district of Jharkhand, were set ablaze by suspected CPI (Maoists) cadre today, police said.
A group of ultras, carrying firearms, showed up at the road construction site in the evening, asked the drivers to alight from the JCB operators, before setting the earth-moving machines on fire, the police said.
Superintendent of Police (SP) Mayur Patel said the JCB machines were set ablaze but did not confirm whether it was the handiwork of the Naxals.
An 11-km road between Budhia and Saruapani was being constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 6 crore. The work had begun about a fortnight ago.
