Four minor girls drowned while taking a bath in a water-filled ditch in Bihar's East Champaran district on Sunday, police said.
The incident took place near Madhlohiyar village under Harsidhi police station, when the girls had gone to take bath and collect snails in the pit, which was filled with water, owing to heavy rainfall in the last few weeks, they said.
The deceased have been identified as sisters Puja Kumari (14) and Arti Kumari (10), Pritam Kumari (13) and Arti Kumari (13), a police officer said.
The bodies have been fished out from the ditch by the villagers and sent to Motihari Sadar Hospital for post-mortem, he said.
