4 PWD engineers arrested in J&K bridge construction case

Jammu and Kashmir's State Vigilance Organisation (SVO) today arrested four Public Works Department engineers, who were among six people booked for illegal allotment of work for bridge construction in Udhampur.
On the prima facie establishment of offences against the accused officers namely D D Gorkha, then Superintending Engineer, PWD Circle Udhampur, P S Sehgal, then Superintending Engineer, PWD Reasi-Udhampur Circle, U K Sharma, then Executive Engineer PWD Division Udhampur and, A K Gandotra, then Executive Engineer PWD Division, Udhampur, they have been arrested in the case for detailed questioning regarding their involvement, an SVO officer said.
The case was registered against them besides the alleged beneficiaries Ashok Kumar and Harminder Singh, officer said.
The case was registered following verification conducted into the allegations of irregularities and gross violations committed by the accused public servants in the allotment and execution of the work in 2012-13, he said.
