4-year-old girl's body found, rape suspected

A day after she went missing, a four-year-old girl was found murdered with police suspecting that she might have been killed after a sexual assault.
The incident led to violent protest by kin of the girl and locals who damaged several vehicles including those belonging to the police.
Police had to resort to lobbing tear gas shells and cane-charge to control the mob.
"A missing complaint was filed by the child's parents last night.
"Immediately, we started the search, but unfortunately the girl's body was found today. A case of abduction and murder has been added to the FIR which already stood registered last night," Assistant Superintendent of Police (East) Parvinder Singh said.

Chandigarh's SSP Sukhchain Singh Gill said that probe was under progress and police was hopeful of making arrests soon.

"At this stage we cannot confirm if the victim was raped also, which will be established only after the post mortem examination," Gill said today, after parents of the victim and locals staged protest here.
The body of the girl was found dumped near thick vegetation this morning at Colony number 4.
The victim's family said that she was last seen around 9 PM by her father at their house after which she suddenly disappeared.
The victim's nude body was found dumped in the woods this morning, with injuries on her private parts, police said.

The situation in the colony turned tense after the child's body was recovered and heavy police force had to be deployed to maintain law and order. The girl's parents and other locals protested against the incident.
Victim's family has alleged that police failed to take action on time.
