400 children to take part in J-K police's 'Run for Fun'

Nearly 400 children from Jammu and Kashmir's mountainous and remote areas are expected to take part in the 'Run for Fun' marathon in Jammu, the winter capital city of the state, this Sunday.
"The police is organising the state-level marathon 'Run for Fun' on March 19. It is being organised under the Civic Action Programme and it is expected that a large number of people from different age groups will participate," Additional Director General (ADG) of Police L Mohanti told reporters here today.
The ADG said 400 children from remote areas of Baramulla, Budgam, Shopian, Kupwara, Bandipore, Rajouri, Poonch, Doda and Kathua districts are expected to participate in the marathon.
Arrangements for their boarding, lodging and transport have been made by the police, Mohanti said.
He said various departments like the Higher and School Education, Youth Services, Sports and Industries are part of the event, besides organisations like the Jammu Bar Association, Press Club and Amar Singh Club.
Participants can register themselves for the marathon at counters in different battalion headquarters and the control room at Gulshan Ground, Mohanti said.

He said the marathon has different event categories and would start at the Police Sports Stadium Gulshan Ground.
"The 42 km full marathon open category (men) would start at 6:30 AM and participants would return to the stadium via Sidhra Bridge Crossing. The 21 km half marathon for men and women would start at 6:40 AM. Runners after reaching the Bajalta Crossing and will return to the stadium," he said
Similarly, participants in the under-14 boys and girls category would start their run from the venue and cover a distance of 6 km and 8 km respectively, Mohanti said.
Buses will be available for participants at different places in Jammu. These buses will depart from their respective points at 4.45 AM, he said
Prize distribution will be held at 10:30 AM. There will be cultural programmes, band display and medical check up for senior citizens, the ADG said.
