421 refugees leave relief camps, no fresh incident

In Kokrajhar district, 126 refugees returned home from one camp since yesterday and one has been closed, while 245 returned in Chirang district, official sources said here.

There are 2,35,412 refugees in 213 camps in Kokrajhar, Chirang, Dhubri and Bongaigaon districts which include 2,11,194 belonging to the minority community and 24,218 Bodos.

Dhubri has the highest number of 1,46,091 refugees in 132 relief camps followed by 44,290 in 46 relief camps in Kokrajhar.

In Chirang, there are 36,718 refugees in 23 camps while in Bongaigaon there are 8313 in 12 camps.

There were 4,85,921 refugees in 340 relief camps during the height of the violence in the four lower Assam districts.

Violence between Bodos and minorities, which began on July 19, have claimed 96 lives so far, official sources said.

Meanwhile, the situation was under control with no fresh incident reported since yesterday.
