422 bottles of illicit liquor seized

More than 400 bottles of illicit liquor were today seized by Punjab Police in separate raids ahead of the assembly polls in the state on February 4.
Special police teams formed in the wake of the elections had laid check-posts in three assembly segments - Fatehgarh Sahib, Bassi Pathana and Amloh - and seized 422 bottles of illicit liquor during the operation, said Fatehgarh Sahib Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Gurpreet Singh Bhullar.
The police team arrested Devinder Singh, a resident of village Amargarh, and Manoj Kumar, a resident of village Niyamatpur, and seized 300 bottles from them, Bhullar said.
75 bottles were seized from Jaswinder Singh, a resident of village Nasrali near Mandi Gobindgarh, 10 bottles from Jinder Lal, a resident of Guniya Majra, 12 bottles from Balbir Singh, a resident of village Dheerpur, 14 bottles from Harpal Singh, a resident of village Chano and 11 bottles from Jaswant Singh, a resident of Bassi Pathana.
He said separate cases under various sections of Excise Act was registered against the accused.
