A total of 425 defence personnel were killed during the last three years, government told Lok Sabha today.
As per data given by Minister of State for Defence, Subhash Bhamre, the Army lost 291 personnel between 2014 and 2016 while 105 Navy personnel and 29 from IAF lost their lives during the same period.
The Minister was responding to a question on defence personnel killed in and outside the country in the last three years.
To a separate query, he said various studies have indicated that increased workload, non-grant of timely leave, lack of adequate sleep and rest and not being able to attend to various pressing family issues are some of the factors leading to cases of suicide or fratricide in armed forces.
He said the government has taken a number of steps to reduce stress among defence personnel.
