The Oscar telecast on Sunday night pulled in a record viewership of 43 million which was up by 2.5 million from previous year.
The mega ceremony, a culmination of Hollywood's award season, was hosted by Ellen Degeneres and was telecast live on ABC.
Final ratings for the Ellen DeGeneres-hosted show have the Academy Awards more than 2.5 million viewers ahead of last year and even in the key demographic, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
The coverage of the show averaged 43 million viewers and 12.9 rating among adults 18-49, which is a 6 per cent boost in viewers.
DeGeneres brought lifts among younger viewers and men -- with ratings among adults 18-34 and men both at their highest since 2007.
Last year's ceremony pulled in 40.4 million viewers and a 13 rating among adults 18-49.

The ratings for Oscars have been reasonably steady in recent years after a slide in 2008, which had an average 32 million viewers.
DeGeneres had previously hosted the Oscars in 2007 which was watched by 40.2 million viewers and a 14.1 rating with adults 18-49. The telecast hasn't topped that demo score since.
The academy, in its attempt to bring in younger audience, has been trying to revamp the event by bringing in younger stars like James Franco, Anne Hathaway and Seth McFarlane to host the three-hour-long ceremony but not to much success.
DeGeneres mostly received positive reviews for her hosting duties this year.
