"Of the 2643 persons infected in diarrhoea from January to August this year, 44 died in the disease. They died due to late arrival at hospitals," Rout said in the assembly.

Similarly, of the 63 persons infected due to dengue, two persons from Dhenkanal district died for not coming to hospital, the minister said.

Admitting that cholera virus had been detected in the state, the minister said no one has so far died in the water borne disease.

"We have alerted doctors and all health workers in the state to remain vigilant to diarrhoea, cholera, dengue and malaria with onset of monsoon," the minister said.
