443 poll-related incidents in Bengal, 2 deaths

Two lives were lost and 443 persons left injured in 504 poll-related incidents in West Bengal since the election dates were announced, Election Commission sources said today.
While one person lost his life in Nadia district last month, the second death took place at Jalangi in Murshidabad district, the Officer-on-Special Duty (OSD) in CEO's office Amit Roy Chowdhury said today.
He said that in a state-wide drive against illegal arms and ammunition, ahead of the Lok Sabha elections, 1,116 illegal arms and 2,971 cartridge were seized.
Roy Chowdhury said the list of seizures also included 207.1 kg of explosive material and 5,665 bombs. Four arms manufacturing units have also been sealed.

Altogether 30,618 licensed arms were deposited, while 3,039 of such arms were impounded and license of 176 others cancelled.
So far 52,981 non-bailable warrants have been executed with 22,188 NBW cases pending, he said.

The Income Tax department has so far seized about Rs 5.50 crore unaccounted money in a number of cases.
The Excise department has so far seized 3.39 lakh bulk litres of illicit liquor valued at Rs 2.72 crore, he said.
Apart from this, a total of 13,280 sensitive hamlets and 12,095 probable trouble-makers were identified by the administration, while preventive action had been taken against 11,679 of them, he said.

The EC received 652 complaints so far of which 298 were filed by CPI(M) alone and most of these were disposed of.
