About 45 per cent polling was reported in the bypoll for Avanigadda Assembly constituency in Krishna district of Andhra Pradesh today.
The polling went off peacefully and the counting of votes will be taken up on August 24, state Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Bhanwar Lal said.
The bypoll was necessitated due to the death of sitting TDP member Ambati Brahmanaiah. His son Sri Hari Prasad is the only candidate in the fray from any major political party.
All other parties had decided against fielding their candidates, apparently to give Prasad the walkover, except two Independents who contested the election.
The Election Commission had made elaborate arrangements for the poll.
The Legislative Assembly elections in AP are scheduled to be held next year along with general elections.
