Machiwara Station House Officer (SHO) Jaswinder Singh said that the truck, which was carrying 450 LPG cylinders, to a Noormahal-based gas agency was reduced to smithereens.
Preliminary investigations reveal that the accident took place as the road was bumpy due to recent rains and the truck received a big jolt at one of the pits on the road, he said.
Explosions continued till all the cylinders in the truck exploded one after the other, police said.
Deafening noise was heard till far away and the pieces of cylinders flew to hundreds of metres away from the scene of the occurrence, they said.
Police said no loss of life is reported so far.
