As many as 46,000 government hospitals are being built all over the country, Union Health minister Ghulam Nabi Azad said here today.
Azad, who visited the AIIMS being built here, said it was even better than the AIIMS in New Delhi.
He said AIIMS in New Delhi had taken 10 years to be built while the one here would come up in less than three years.
On providing medical facilities across the country, he said a total of 46,000 government hospitals were being built at present in different parts of the country. However, he did not elaborate.
AIIMS Bhopal is one of the six AIIMS like apex healthcare institutes being established by the Union Ministry of Health under the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojna (PMSSY).
With the aim of correcting regional imbalances in quality tertiary level healthcare in the country and attaining self sufficiency in graduate and postgraduate medical education and training, the PMSSY has planned to set up six new AIIMS like institutions in under-served areas of the country.
The Minister said he wanted the AIIMS in Bhopal to be so good that people from Delhi should come to the AIIMS here for treatment.
