48,000 more constable posts created in paramilitary: Minister

Over 48,000 constables in paramilitary forces have been promoted to the rank of head constables, thus creating as many additional vacancies, Union minister Haribhai Parathibhai Chaudhary said today.
The government has constructed 400 new police stations and check posts in last one year and more than 48,000 constables have been promoted as head constables which resulted in creation of as many additional vacancies, the Minister of State for Home said at a seminar 'Smart Policing and Public Safety' here.
Chaudhary said the government is working towards making procedure for procurement of various items by paramilitary forces hassle free and has empowered the chiefs of the forces for procuring goods up to Rs 20 crore without taking approval from the Home Ministry.
The government doesn't want to procure outdated technology products just because of cheap prices and it is looking towards strengthening the defence sector with induction of latest technology and equipment, he said at the function organised by 'Crux Centre for Security Research', an NGO.
