48-hr KSO bandh cripples Imphal-Moreh stretch of NH-2

A 48-hour long bandh called by the Kuki Students' Organisation (KSO) has crippled life along the Imphal-Moreh stretch of the National Highway 2 affecting Indo-Myanmar international trade, the police said.
The KSO general headquarters has called the bandh in the hill districts of Manipur starting from last midnight against assault of the organisation's Chandel district president and two village chiefs yesterday by 24 Assam Rifles (AR) personnel yesterday at Khudengthabi check post in Manipur's Chandel district.
KSO general headquarters general secretary Seiboi Haokip had yesterday said president of KSO, Chandel district, Doumang Haokip, the chief of S Lamphel village Letkhosei Haokip and the chief of Kotal Khunthak village Koparsing Lamkang were beaten up by the 24 AR personnel while coming back home after attending the funeral service of the chief of Joldam village, Moreh.
KSO strongly condemns the incident and has decided to call the 48-hour bandh in the hill districts starting from the midnight of December 6 in protest, he had said.
Meanwhile, the indefinite economic blockade called by civil society organisation of Sadar hill area of Manipur's Senapati district since December 2t was called off today after assurance by MLA Nemcha Kipgen to repair the dilapidated Highway No. 1 portion in Senapati district, the police added.
