48 new COVID-19 cases in Odisha; tally rises to 672

As many as 48 people, who returned to Odisha recently, tested positive for COVID-19 on Friday, taking the total number of coronavirus cases in the state to 672, an official said.

Of the fresh cases, 12 each were reported from Ganjam and Balasore, 10 from Puri district, six from Bhadrak, three from Nayagarh, two from Jajpur and one each from Cuttack, Sundergarh and Deogarh districts, a Health and Family Welfare department official said.

All the coronavirus positive cases detected on Friday came from temporary quarantine medical centres and one from home quarantine, the official said, adding that most of them had returned from Gujarat, West Bengal, Delhi and Maharashtra.

With eight patients getting cured on Friday, the total number of recoveries from COVID-19 increased to 166 in the state.

All the 29 children who were afflicted with coronavirus in Odisha have now recovered from the disease, the state's chief spokesperson on COVID-19, Subroto Bagchi said.

Sources in the Health and Family Welfare department said a total of 81,919 samples have been tested for coronavirus so far.

With the 48 new cases, the total number of COVID-19 cases in the state rose to 672 of which 503 cases are active cases and 166 people have recovered while three have died of the disease.

As a large number of migrant Odias have been returning from different parts of the country, as many as 6.29 lakh beds in 14,795 Temporary Medical Centres/Camps have been readied in 6,798 Gram Panchayats to quarantine them, Bagchi said.

Sources in the Health and Family Welfare department said a total of 81,919 samples have been tested so far of which 4,769 were tested on Thursday.

Of the 30 districts in Odisha, 21 have so far reported COVID-19 cases.

Ganjam district tops the list with 264 cases, followed by Balasore at 102, Jajpur at 90, Khurda at 53, Bhadrak at 46, Sundergarh at 26, Kendrapara at 22, Angul at 15 and Puri at 14.

Nine cases have been reported from Mayurbhanj, five from Jagatsinghpur, and four each in Nayagarh, Keonjhar, Cuttack and Boudh districts.

Two cases each have been detected in Bolangir, Deogarh, Kalahandi and Jharsuguda districts and one each in Koraput and Dhenkanal districts.
