5,244 bottles of illicit liquor seized in Delhi

In a major crackdown, Delhi government has seized 5,244 bottles of illicit liquor from various parts of the city, a senior official said today.
Commissioner of Excise Neeraj Semwal said the seized liquor was non-duty paid in the city and was being transported unauthorisedly.
A case was registered at the Adarsh Nagar police station against a person after 624 bottles of liquor for sale in Haryana were recovered from him.
In another instance, a case was registered at Bhajanpura police station against Brahmpuri residents Vimal Gupta and Vikash after they were allegedly caught carrying 720 bottles of illicit liquor meant for sale in Haryana. Two vehicles were also seized in this case.
Another FIR was registered in Alipur police station against one Dinesh, who was allegedly carrying 432 bottles meant for sale in Haryana. A car was also seized in this case.
Several other FIRs were also registered in other cases and vehicles were seized.

Semwal said the Excise Department in its earlier raids conducted at various places had seized a huge number of illicit liquor bottles.
The department had recovered 31,680 bottles of illicit liquor of different brands and cases were registered against the accused in different police stations in the city under Delhi Excise Act 2009, he said.
The vehicles used in the crime were also confiscated.
Till now, the Excise Department has seized 36,924 bottles of illicit liquor.
Raids will continue in the capital to find whether the provisions are followed properly, said Semwal.
