Police said as the gang attacked the force with bombs and brickbats, five personnel were injured and two police vehicles got damaged at Wembly More under Jagaddal police station area under the jurisdiction of Barrackpore Police Commissionerate.
As the force went to the area to pick up one Raju Tiwary, accused of being involved in a heroin smuggling racket, some of his accomplices turned on the cops.
Police lathicharged the gang members and managed to take Tiwary, accused in many cases, to the police station.
About 200 gram of the contraband was recovered from Raju.
