Jagraon SSP Gurpreet Singh Toor said that all the five women killed were travelling in the jeep and were on their way to Badowal near Ludhiana to participate in a religious function.
The deceased have been identified as Birpal Kaur, Ranjit Kaur, Harpal Kaur, Kulwinder Kaur and Palwinder Kaur.
The injured were admitted to a local hospital where the condition of the jeep driver, Karnail Singh, is stated to be serious.
All the four vehicles were badly damaged in the incident, the SSP said.
