5-MW Tripura solar power plant commissioned

A 5-MW solar power project, the first its kind in north-east India, has been commissioned by North East Electric Power Corporation (NEEPCO) at Monarchak in Sipahijala district of Tripura.
"The project, with a financial involvement of Rs 40 crore, was commissioned on Sunday. The power would be carried from the project by a 33 KV double circuit line up to Rabindranagar substation of Tripura State Electricity Corporation Ltd (TSECL)," S R Biswas, head of project told reporters today.
He said the solar power would be commercially used by TSECL for consumption by people of the state.
Biswas said NEEPCO would commission a 50-MW solar power plant in Madhya Pradesh and another 2-MW plant in Nagaon district of Assam.
Meanwhile, ONGC started charging gas to the 101 MW gas based thermal power project at Monarchak, since Sunday last and added that experimental production would start within this week itself. The entire power is to be consumed in the state.
