5 of family killed in road mishap in Punjab

Four women were among five of a family killed when their mini-truck was hit by a truck near Rangilpur village here, police said today.
Four persons were also critically injured in the accident last night on Rupnagar-Chandigarh road when the family members were returning to their home from Lakhmipur village after a marriage ceremony, they said.
The family members were thrown off the mini-truck when the collision took place, police said, adding that the truck ran over them killing five, and injuring four.
Premjit Kaur (40), Mandeep (13), Nasib Kaur (62), Rajinder (35) and Harjinder Singh (45), all relatives were killed in the mishap, they said.

The injured were admitted to civil hospital here, they said, adding that their condition is stated to be critical.
The accused truck driver fled from the spot with his vehicle, they said.
A case was registered in this regard, they added.
