Five employees of the Rural Development Department (RDD) were suspended while show-cause notices issued to 80 others for "poor performance" in the implementation of the Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM) in Jammu and Kashmir's Udhampur district, officials said today.

The suspension was ordered yesterday by Udhampur District Development Commissioner Ravinder Kumar during a meeting convened to review the status of centrally sponsored schemes, including the SBM (Gramin), an official spokesman said.

While reviewing the panchayat-wise performance of all blocks under the SBM, Kumar suspended five employees of the RDD and served show-cause notices on 80 employees, including an Assistant Development Commissioner, Block Development Officers and village-level workers for "poor performance" in the implementation of the SBM and geo-tagging, he said.

Kumar directed the officers and field staff of concerned departments to set the timeline for completion of all pending works of individual household latrine (IHHL) in the current financial year, he added.

According to the source, Kumar also directed the revenue officials to cover all those left without Aadhaar card and complete the entire process before September 30.
