Police have arrested five suspected criminals, three of whom were allegedly involved in the murder of the father of gangster Manjeet Mahal.
They were arrested last evening when they were going in a car toward Mitraun village in southwest Delhi, said Sanjeev Kumar Yadav, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Cell).
After the car was intercepted, they fired five rounds at police, Yadav said.
Police suspected them to be members of a gang led by Kapil-Jyoti Sangwan alias Nandu.
Police said there was a reward of Rs 50,000 on the information leading to the arrest of one of them who was a sharp-shooter of the Nandu gang.
While four of the arrested were in their 20s, the fifth member was 37 years old.

Police have recovered seven semi-automatic weapons, including a mini carbine gun, and 75 live cartridges.
Police said three of the arrested were involved in the murder of Shri Kishan, the father of Manjeet Mahal, in January this year.
Police claimed that the gang members were going to Mitraun village to target the family members of Manjeet Mahal after the latter's gang killed two of their accomplices following the murder of Shri Krishna.
Police claimed the murder of Shri Kishan was the fallout of the rivalry between the gangs of Kapil Sangwan and Manjeet Mahal who are lodged in jails.
