Five teenagers have drowned in a river in south-eastern Bangladesh when they went for swimming after a friendly football match, according to media reports.
The boys, from the same school in Cox's Bazar district, played the friendly football match on Saturday.
"Twenty two schoolboys played a friendly football match on Saturday after dividing themselves between supporters of the two South American teams," local police chief Bakhtiar Uddin Chowdhury said.
After the match, six of them went for swimming in the Matamuhuri River. They were swept away by the strong current of the river, Chowdhury said.
Their bodies were recovered on Saturday evening. Thousands of people attended their funeral yesterday.
