Nearly 50 families have been shifted to safer places from Ramban district's Dharam village where soil erosion and sinking of land have been witnessed of late.
"We have last evening shifted nearly 50 families to safer places following soil erosion in the village, a district official said today.
A total of 124 families have been shifted so far from the village which is facing soil erosion and sinking of land for past over three months.
Seventy-four families were shifted from the village in January this year.
Meanwhile, people alleged that erosion has taken place due to work on Udhampur-Ramban-Banihal rail line which is passing close to the village.
As per Deputy Commissioner Ramban, Bashir Ahmed Dar, 26 kanals (over three acres) of land have been earmarked for rehabilitating the villagers facing threat from soil erosion.
They will be given plots for setting up their houses in the area, the DC said.
