The company, which launched its latest safety infusion cannulas that minimise chances of needle stick injury to nurses and other healthcare workers, has a capacity to produce 36 million units of the 'Safety IV Cannula' initially at its new plant that is spread over 5.5 acres.
"We soon will be exporting this product (Safety IV Cannula with this Sharps Injury Prevention SIP Clip) to more than 20 countries by 2017. We have already shipped over 1.5 million I V Cannulas to Scandinavia recently...," HMD Joint Managing Director Rajiv Nath said in a statement.
The company has invested over Rs 100 crore for setting up new plant, HMD said.
"According to WHO, if Safety Cannula are made mandatory in hospitals, then around 80 per cent of all hospital staff can be saved from needle stick injuries," HMD said.
Founded in 1957, HMD is a leading medical device maker employing over 3,500 people in its eight manufacturing facilities.
