50-year old attempts suicide in Collectorate

A 50-year old barber allegedly attempted to commit by consuming pesticide in front of the District Collector today in a bid to highlight his problem in getting the house tax receipt.
Angamuthu, a resident of Alandurai on the city outskirts, fell unconscious soon after he consumed the pesticide and was admitted to the government hospital here by the assistants of District Collector Archana Patnaik, police said.
He was allowed to meet Patnaik for submitting a memorandum on his grievance when he suddenly took out a pouch and consumed the pesticide.
According to the memorandum, recovered from Angamurthu, he was running from pillar to post for the last eight years to get an electricity connection to his house.

He claimed officials were not bothered about his application seeking house tax receipt, required for applying for electricity connection and sought the intervention of the Collector in this matter, police said.
