51% of total water storage capacity available: Govt

States having better storage than last year are Himachal Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh and Tripura

Water stock available in 91 major reservoirs in the country is at 51 per cent of the total storage capacity as on December 3 this year.

According to a statement issued by the Union Water Resources Ministry, water stock available as on December 3, across major reservoirs was 81.109 billion cubic meters (BCM) as against the total storage capacity of 157.799 BCM.

The current stock is 75 per cent of the 10-year average for the corresponding period and 78 per cent of the levels reported during the same period last year.

States having lesser storage than last year are Punjab, Rajasthan, Jharkhand, Odisha, West Bengal, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Telangana, Karnataka, Kerala and Tamil Nadu.

States having better storage than last year are Himachal Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh and Tripura.
