The deceased, identified as Kulwinder Kaur, was mentally perturbed and was undergoing medical treatment for the same, they said.
"She tied her 'dupatta' around her neck and then tied it with the ceiling fan in the house and hung herself to death yesterday," a police official said.
"She took the step when other members of her family were not present in the house," they said.
The body was found by Kaur's son Harjinder when he returned home, following which police was informed, they added.
