In order to monitor the actual status of fossil fuel emission levels, Delhi government today inspected 53 diesel-run vehicles, including two vehicles older than 10 years among which one failed the 'rigorous' test.
Transport Minister Gopal Rai said that his department would apprise the National Green Tribunal about the results of the tests.
Government will conduct a random inspection of diesel-run vehicles older than 10 years old and 5 years old to monitor the actual status of their emission levels.
The inspection was today conducted in the presence of Rai, Transport Commissioner Gitanjali Guptal, NGT representatives, office bearers of transport associations and other experts.
"We today inspected 53 diesel-run vehicles of three different age categories - 0-5 years, 5 to 10 years, more than 10 years. Out of 53 vehicles, 45 vehicles passed in the Pollution Under Control (PUC) test while eight failed," said a senior government official.
The official said that only two vehicles of more than 10 years came forward to undergo the PUC test, of which one vehicle failed to pass PUC test.

In the 0-5 years old vehicle category, 42 diesel-run vehicles were inspected. Out of 42, 36 vehicles passed while six failed.
"Nine vehicles, aged between 5 and 10 years, were inspected by the officials and out of these, eight vehicles passed the PUC test while one failed. Besides, two vehicles older than 10 years old were examined. Of these, one failed," the official said.
The Transport Minister said that government would put the results of such tests before the green court so that a good decision could be taken.
"We also called NGT representatives today so that they could observe this. Government would put the results of such tests before the NGT so that a good decision could be taken," Rai said.
The green court had recently banned more than 10-years-old diesel-run vehicles in Delhi-NCR in view of increasing air pollution.
Delhi government has also approached the Centre and Traffic Police seeking their help to effectively implement the NGT order.
