55-yr-old man arrested for raping minor girl

The police today arrested a 55-year-old man for allegedly raping a minor girl, a relative of him, at a town near here.
The accused, a labourer, attended the death ceremony of a relative last night at a hall in Chigurumamidi town, about 30 kms from here, where the girl was also present along with her parents.
During the ceremony, the accused lured the girl on some pretext and took her out of the hall to a nearby place where he allegedly raped her, Chigurumamidi police station's sub-inspector N Satyanarayana said.
"The girl had come to the ceremony along with her parents. They later found their daughter with injuries and suspecting that she was raped, they lodged a complaint," the SI said.

Based on the complaint, the accused was arrested and offences under IPC section 376 (punishment for rape) and relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act were registered against him, the SI said.
Under IPC section 376, the offence of rape attracts a maximum punishment of life term.
The girl was sent for medical examination, Satyanarayana said.
The accused is the brother of the girl's paternal grandfather, he said.
