Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) officials said that acting on a tip-off, a special team rushed to a hideout near Rabindra Sarani area in North Kolkata and seized the precious yellow metal in 350 pieces of gold biscuits.
Twelve people, including a woman, hailing from Manipur and Mizoram, were arrested in this connection. They were later produced before a city court which remanded them to judicial custody till August 24.
Those arrested here are suspected to be part of the same gang which smuggled these yellow metals from Mayanmar and went to Mumbai.
After the arrest of two members of the gang, the rest took shelter in Kolkata and continued with their smuggling business, the officials added.
