"During the current year till date more than Rs 25 lakh have been sanctioned and distributed among 583 police wards as assistance under various scholarship schemes," Prasad said chairing a meeting convened to review scholarship schemes for police wards here yesterday.
He said this include meritorious scholarships for 195 wards of serving police personnel, 41 school going children of deceased personnel and 93 wards of 'martyrs', who laid down their lives fighting militancy in the state.
"Welfare of police wards is one of the top most priorities of the organisation to infuse spirit of competition among them and boost their morale," the DGP said.
He said various welfare schemes have been introduced to inspire police wards towards the quality education enabling to compete in competitive examinations and sports events.
He said the organisation, realising its responsibility to help the families of martyrs, has been providing scholarship to their school going children enabling them to continue their education.
