The accused was intercepted after his arrival from Muscat here.
"A detailed personal search of the passenger resulted in recovery of two gold wires total weighing 1.17 kg. The gold wires were coated with silver colour and were concealed beneath the inside metal frame of the check-in baggage," a press release issued by the customs said.
The market value of the seized gold wires works out to be Rs 33.05 lakh, it said, adding the passenger has been arrested.
The customs officials have registered four cases of gold smuggling in past few days and seized yellow metal worth over a crore.
