The 596 villages have been selected under the scheme by the state's government's panchayat and rural development department, official sources said here today.
Under the scheme, the villages having population of 3,000 to 5,000 would be provided basic facilities available in the cities.
For this purpose, the villages have been given priority in selection on the basis of the scheduled caste and scheduled tribes population and those villages which are comparatively better in terms of education and health, sources said.
The villages selected under the scheme include - 25 in Dhamtari district, 3 in Bijapur, 8 in Balod, 41 in Bastar, 10 in Bemetara, 19 in Balrampur, 38 in Baloda Bazar-Bhatapara, 9 in Kabirdham (Kawardha), 6 in Kanker, 17 in Kondagaaon, 20 in Korba, 9 in Koriya, 10 in Mahasamund, 15 in Mungeli, 74 in Bilaspur, 57 in Raipur, 11 in Rajnandgaon, 18 in Raigarh, 17 in Sarguja, 6 in Sukma, 28 in Surajpur, 31 in Durg, 6 in Dantewada, 78 in Janjgir-Champa, 25 in Jashpur, 2 in Narayanpur and 11 in Gariyaband.
