Common facilities for management of hazardous waste have been set up at four sites. Major sites are located at Taloja and the Trans-Thane Creek Industrial Area of the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) in Thane district, Ranjangaon in Pune district and Butibori in Nagpur district, the survey said.
The state has made it mandatory to install global positioning systems (GPS) in all containers carrying hazardous waste to ensure its proper disposal. So far, 102 hazardous waste transporters have installed these systems.
The MPCB has authorised 20 industries to build a recycling and dismantling capacity of 24,320 tonnes of electronic waste per year.
