6 auto-lifters held

With the arrest of six persons, Delhi police today claimed to have busted two gangs of automobile lifters who were using the latest gadgets to unlock and steal vehicles.
They used to break the electronic codes of the vehicle by changing the ECM (Electronic Control Module), police said.
Israr (35), Ranjit (33), Jogender (32), and Rahis (26) all natives of Meerut in Uttar Pradesh, Sachin Sehgal (22), a resident of Subhash and Subham (24) from Vikaspuri in New Delhi were arrested, police said.
Four stolen vehicles, a drill machine, two ECM lock key sets and other tools have been recovered from their possession, they said.
One of the gangs, which had three members, had also stolen a vehicle with red beacon belonging to a senior judicial officer, Ravindra Yadav, Additional Commissioner of Police, (Crime) said.
Yadav said the gang members would steal vehicles on demand basis and used latest equipments and gadgets to unlock them.

The other gang confessed to have stolen more than 180 cars, particularly from West District.
Police had got a tip off on last Saturday about three gang members arriving on the service road, behind M2K in Rohini, following which a trap was laid and they were apprehended, Yadav said.
The other gang members were arrested on the same night from K N Katju Marg, he said.
The interrogation revealed that Israr, after being released from jail three months ago, had again taken to his specialised crime. He is a notorious auto-lifter, and had earlier been arrested for a murder in PS Nauchandi, Yadav said.
