Acting on a specific information, sleuths from the Social Service Branch raided two rooms in the hotel on Grant Road in south Mumbai, where the six were found accepting bets on the match played yesterday, said Deputy Commissioner of Police Dhananjay Kulkarni.
Twenty cell-phones, a laptop, notebooks containing betting details and over Rs 2.35 lakh in cash were seized from them, police said.
The bookies were identified as Manish Shah, Mohammed Saleem Lateef Shaikh, Anilkumar Ramrakheni, Suresh Khurkhuriya, Shrikant Sahu and Surendra Sahu.
With the World Cup underway, police have stepped up vigil to curb betting in the metropolis.
Security agencies have been keeping a close watch on the activities of the bookies during the mega cricket event underway in Australia and New Zealand.
Many Mumbai-based bookies are believed to have shifted to 'safer' havens outside the metropolis or the state to escape raids, police sources said.
