Six deliverymen have been arrested for allegedly pilfering cooking gas from sealed domestic and commercial cylinders in Central Delhi, police said.
Acting on a tip-off, Kasim (32), Ajay (29), Himanshu (29), Jeelani (35), Rampreet (28) and Hariram (35) were caught red-handed yesterday by the Special Staff when they were transferring gas from sealed cylinders to empty one yesterday.
"A raid was conducted near Kanchanpuri Gas Godown, Rajghat in the morning hours during which, six deliverymen were caught red handed while they were pilfering the cooking gas from sealed cylinders into empty cylinders so negligently as to endanger human safety and lives with the help of an instrument called 'Bansuri' in their common parlance," said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central) Alok Kumar.
During interrogation, they said that to make extra money, they started transferring cooking gas in empty cylinders. They used to pilfer and transfer cooking gas from sealed domestic and commercial cylinders to empty ones through illegal means before supplying cylinders to customers.
They used to transfer gas using 'Bansuri' which is a two-side open hollow steel pipe specifically designed to fit in the mouth of domestic cylinders to transfer cooking gas.
They used to make four cylinders out of three filled gas cylinders. They were evolved in this for past six-seven months.
Police has also recovered 24 underweight cooking gas cylinders including six commercial cylinders.
21 sealed cylinders from which cooking gas was to be pilfered were also recovered along with two 'Bansuris' and two weighing machines.
