6 luxury hotels among top ten defaulters in licence fee,

Six luxury hotels in the city owed a total of Rs 174 crore to New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) as licence fee and property tax and are among top 10 defaulters to the civic agency.
Replying to a question in Lok Sabha, Minister of State for Home Affairs Mullappally Ramachandran said Taj Palace hotel owed Rs 42.55 crore to NDMC while Hotel Ashoka has outstandings to the tune of Rs 37.46 crore.
Hotel Leela Venture and Hotel Samrat have defaulted payment of Rs 34.14 crore and Rs 21.74 crore respectively whereas Hotel Kanishka owed Rs 21.22 crore in various taxes.
The Minister said Hotel Park has Rs 17.18 crore in outstandings to NDMC.
The Jawahar Vayapar Bhavan, which houses a number of offices and banks owed a total of Rs 43.15 crore while owners of property at 23, Aurangzeb Road and 5, Kasturba Gandhi Marg, have pending dues to the tune of Rs 12.29 crore and Rs 11.10 crore, he said.
"NDMC has taken necessary steps with due process of law against the defaulters. At present, most of the cases are in litigation," Ramachandran said.
