6 policemen injured in anti-encroachment drive

Six policemen were injured and several vehicles set ablaze as a mob protested against an anti-encroachment drive being carried out by Greater Noida Authority, in Gautam Budhnagar today.
A mob of 200 people staged a traffic jam on Greater Noida road in Kuleshra village under Surajpur police station area in protest against the demolition team removing encroachment near Hindon river in Doob area, police said.
The mob indulged in stone pelting and set fire to the furniture of a police chowki and motorcycles, police said adding that the protesters also stopped a roadways bus and set it ablaze besides damaging four to five other buses.
As many as six policemen were injured in the incident, police said adding that they have been admitted to hospital.
"Around 12 bikes were burnt by them. The fire on the bus was extinguished and a cylinder blast was prevented by the fire personnel," Fire Station Officer Sanjiv Kumar Yadav said.
A case has been registered and 16 people taken into custody, police added.
