6 sentenced to 2yr jail for printing counterfeit currency

A local court has sentenced six persons to two years imprisonment on charges of printing, possessing and circulating counterfeit currency notes.
The Additional Sub Court here convicted and sentenced the six persons yesterday and also slapped a fine of Rs 5,000 each on them.
A CB-CID release today said a case was registered by police in 1998 and 12 persons were found involved in printing, possessing and circulating counterfeit currency notes in a house at Tiruppur.
Fake currency with a face value of Rs 50.64 lakh was also seized from them, the release said.
While 10 persons were arrested in connection with the case, one surrendered and another absconded, it said.
During the trial, two of them died and two others absconded.
The case was transferred to the CB-CID in 2000.
After the end of the trial, six of the total of eight persons were convicted and sentenced.
