Dr Amte, who had gone to Belgaum to attend a function last week, narrated the incident to reporters here today.
"At the end of my speech, a small girl walked up to the stage and handed over a piggy bank in which she had collected Rs 2,000," he said.
When Dr Amte asked the girl - Prasava Patil, she replied that she had collected the amount from the money given by her parents as her pocket money.
"As this year is being observed as the birth centenary year of Dr Baba Amte, the Lok Biradari team has ambitious plans of setting up a 50-bedded full-fledged hospital at Hemalkasa," Dr Amte said.
