"Manohar Lal, a resident of Jahangirpuri, has allegedly been involved in 26 criminal cases of robbery, attempt to murder, rape, kidnapping for ransom, among others," P Karunakaran, DCP (North West) said.
Veer Bhan, a resident of Khazoori Khas, had lodged a complaint on August 24 at Khazoori Khas police station that Lal had entered into a land deal with him in August first week by forging the name of Nawab Singh, who was the original owner of the land.
"Bhan along with his partners, Satpal, Madan and Amit Kumar, inspected the copies of original documents of the said plot and paid a token money of Rs 1 lakh on August 18 and the remaining amount, Rs 36 lakh, the next day," the official said.
When the trio came to take the possession of the land on August 20, the land owner came with original papers and told them they were cheated by some unknown person using forged documents.
According to police, on August 24, Amit Kumar, a victim of the forged land deal and two police officials, were searching for the accused in Jahangirpuri when Kumar identified Manohar alias Nawab driving a four-wheeler.
Policemen chased and stopped his car but he called up his two sons who started abusing the police. The trio then assaulted a police personnel and took his pistol away before fleeing from the spot.
Thereafter, cops formed a team under Jahangirpuri ACP Virender Dahiya and acting on a tip-off, they arrested Manohar from Adarshnagar crossing on Saturday, police claimed.
"A Honda City car, one 9 mm loaded pistol which was snatched from a police official and five live cartridges of 9 mm pistol were recovered from his possession," Karunakaran said.
