6000 participants turn up in Jammu marathon

More than 6,000 participants, including senor citizens and children, took part at the state level marathon race which was flagged off today by Director General of Police Ashok Prasad at Police Sports Stadium, Gulshan Ground, here.
The 'Run for Fun' marathon race, which was participated by 5 to 85-year-old was organised by Jammu and Kashmir Police under its Civic Action Programme.
The marathon ended at the venue after passing through various routes in the city. People profusely cheered the participants when they passed through the route of the marathon.
The flagging-off ceremony for different categories started at 5.45 a.M. People from different parts of the city and other parts of Jammu division thronged the venue to participate in the race.
The participants included students from different educational institutions, sports bodies, police personnel, para-military personnel, young children, members of chambers of commerce, Jammu Club, Press Club and senior citizens.
On the culmination of Run, winners from all categories were awarded cash prizes and certificate of participation by the DGP, who was the Chief Guest at the prize distribution function.

Prasad said that JK Police have organised various sports events in the winter capital of the state under its Civic Action Programme and the people, particularly the youth, have shown great interest in these events. The aim behind these sports events was to cultivate sports talent among the youth.
He said his police organisation would continue its efforts to inspire the youth of the state towards sports and for this purpose such events would be held in Jammu, Srinagar and other parts of the state.
He thanked the people, particularly the children, for their participation in the marathon and said that large participation of the people has encouraged police organisation to conduct such events in future.
