60th National School Games begin

The 60th National School Games kick-started here today and was declared open by Delhi's Brand Ambassador and two-time Olympic Games medallist Sushil Kumar.
The games will continue till January 8. Kumar appealed to the players that these games should be competed in true sportsman spirit.
The Sports Branch, Directorate of Education, Delhi government has organised the National School Games at Chhatrasal Stadium.
Around 9,600 players and official from 34 states and union territories and affiliated units of SGFI are participating in 17 sporting events.
For the past so many years, the Government of Delhi has been organising National School Games in Delhi quite successfully, as a result of which School Games Federation of India has allotted organisation of 17 disciplines to Delhi this year.
Last year, Delhi School students won 354 Gold medals, 151 Silver medals and 109 Bronze medals in the 59th National School Games. Delhi also won overall Championship of National School Games last year. Delhi stood first in National School Games while Maharashtra and Haryana got 2nd and 3rd position, respectively.
